Why is my baby's pooh green?

I breastfeed my baby whenever I am in the house. In my absence, I leave expressed breast milk (2 bottles) but this is not enough and needs to be supplemented with some Nan milk. I have noticed that he gets greenish poop whenever he takes nan-1. Sometimes it is completely green. Could he be reacting to nan-1? Should I consider changing his formula?

Over this first year of life, as you introduce your baby to new foods, the colour and frequency of his stool is bound to change. It seems you are giving your baby both breast and formula milk. Formula, which is usually extracted from cow's milk, may cause your baby's stool to be browner or greener (darker), harder, and more foul smelling like adult pooh. Thus, a change in stool colour is expected with formula milk. When examining your baby's pooh, be on the lookout for very loose and frequent stools (diarrhoea), mucous, and traces of blood. These signs, together with failure to gain weight, are warning signs that should get you to see a paediatrician. Otherwise, from your description, it does not appear that there is anything to worry about for the moment.
