Can I give honey to a six month old?

There is insufficient evidence to show whether honey is effective or not effective for children's cough. It has been shown to reduce the frequency of cough but does not necessarily reduce the severeity of the cough and the sleep quality of the parents when their child has a cough. As such, we cannot promote honey as a remedy for any age group. But having said so, we would like you to know that the insufficiency in evidence has got to do with the fact that there have been no sufficient number of studies to examine this and its our guess that some anecdotal evidence may suggest that it does work. It has even been suggested that it may have antimicrobial properties. So if you do have to give honey on this basis, your question is; is it safe to give to a 6 month old? Well, a 6 month has just started weaning and it will be fairly acceptable for him/her to take small quantities of honey! We do not know what the appropriate dose is for each age group!
