My baby is six months now and has started eating solids. She however seems to be constipated. I've reverterd to giving only blended fruits and plenty of water but she is still in so much pain when she wants to poo'. How can I help her

Just to be sure that we are on the same page; a baby is said to have constipation when he/she passess less than 3 motions of stool per week or passes mainly hard stool over a period of two weeks. Constipation can be caused by food allergies (like cow's milk allergy), sores around the anal area, innappropriate dietary mix, stringent bowel training, and sexual abuse. Considering these possible causes, a parent's observations are crucial in making a diagnosis. Usually, it is due to a few dietary mishaps that should resolve spontaneously after a short duration. If symptoms persist, we advise that you take your child to see a qualified paediatrician.
